Member and Polymer Clay Artist Jennifer Wiles will lead us in a demo of the ancient art of Kumihimo.
Essentially, Kumihimo is Japanese braiding, and is often combined with beads to make beautiful jewelry. The term Kumihimo in the Japanese language means the gathering of threads. The literal translation of kumihimo means the ”coming together (kumi) of threads (himo)”. This technique involves using several highly developed looms for specific types of braids.

using these types of tools:

Playday will be taught by Jennifer.

Kits including the round disc, bobbins, a weight , and a sample piece of cord to get you started will be available at the meeting and play day for $12.

A selection of hand dyed silk cord will also be available for purchase.

If you have a kumihimo disc or loom please bring it with you to the meeting.  I am hoping that we will have time to start a simple braid so that you will be able to play between the meeting and the play day.
