At 7:30
pm Marlene Glickman gave a wonderful presentation and demonstration on dyeing
on silk and other natural fabrics. She
started with 10 colors of color hue dye.
She began the process by scrunching up a white silk scarf, putting it in
a baggie, pouring in chosen dye colors one-by-one and pulling the scarf out
with a beautiful design on it. The way
the fabric is put in the baggie and the way the colors are added determines the
design but each one that comes out is unique.
Fabric can also be clamped with clothespins for another way to produce a
design. She will be present on Playday,
Nov. 29th for those who want to try out her process. The project will be making a greeting card
with hand-dyed silk organza.
She
will also be conducting workshops in Clearwater
on Sat. Nov. 14, for a hand-dyed silk scarf, 10-12:30 and a collage
1-3:30. She will be doing a demo at the Florida
Craftsmen Gallery, St. Pete, November 21-22.
She will also be doing demos on silk dyeing Sat. Nov. 28, 10-12:30 and Dec. 5,
2-5pm.
She
gets most of her fabric from Thai Silks and Dharma Silks.
Her
process also works on some linen, rayon and wools.
She
said colors need to be played with to gain intensity. However, they do not shift much from wet to
dry. She cautioned that discharging or
removing color should be done outdoors only.
Marlene
will provide all materials for Playday and the cost is $10.
Marlene
also does foil work, using Misty-fuse to fuse foils. She uses a metallic gel pen to sign her
work. A foiling workshop will be offered
in the future
Meeting
was adjourned at 9:05pm.

submitted by
Nancy
Faris, Secretary
