Minutes
Surface Design Guild Meeting
January
13,
2009
6:30
pm at
Firehouse
Kendra
opened the meeting at
6:30 and welcomed 6 guests. The treasurer
reported a
balance of $1273.96 and 44 members. There are new hot pink SD flyers for
members
to give out. Judy brought in the new membership list, and corrections
were made
as needed. The minutes were approved as usual, since nobody reads them
from the
web site anyway. Kendra has renewed our room reservations for our normal
dates
with one exception: Play day for March will be on March 22 instead of
the last
Sunday. The technique page signup sheet had its last circulation.
A total of 27 copies of each technique
will be needed for the February meeting. Each should be in a plastic
page
protector and have a sample of the technique, or picture if a sample is
not
possible.
Fibre Arts Exhibit –
Venice Art Center. Betsy brought application forms, which
also list
the categories. Every entry must contain fiber. There is a maximum of 3
items
per category, and a cost for members of the sponsoring guilds of $5 per
entry.
We need to help sell ads and sign up to work the exhibit by receiving,
set-up,
takedown, and demonstrations. A signup sheet was circulated. Betsy will
be able
to answer any additional questions after the next committee meeting.
A vote
was taken
for the two possibilities of June programs, and a demo by the Golden art
products representative won. If he is not available on that date, the
new board
could choose to schedule him for next year. Wire wrapped beads was the
other
idea and could be a backup. The Golden rep might be available to give a
workshop
in 18 techniques for the cost of $75 each including supplies.
March
will be hot
art- with shrink and friendly plastics, and
tyvek.
April
is the
wearable art fashion show – the newsletter will have information about
the
deadline for getting copy to Diane describing each wearable item. There
will be
models (us or others) prizes and snacks.
The
inspiration
table continues, but with fewer items this meeting. Only 4 ATC items
were
swapped. Creative people – let us see what you are
doing!
Program
– Diane
Bunker and 3-D Flowers on Glass and Fabric. After hearing this
interesting
program, we will be able to try the technique at the next play day.
Diane will
sell kits of supplies for Dimensional flowers on fabric for $4 and for
Dimensional Flowers on hard surfaces for $13, as well as copies of her
book for
$10. There is also a list of supplies people should get on their own.
Let Diane
know which you want so there will be enough
kits.
Respectfully
submitted,
Carol
